① 遗址没有墙的地方，旁边都有很多陡峭的山（cliff）或峡谷，敌人进不去，所以并不需要墙。

② 可以观察（scout）敌人，在敌人进攻前就发现他们。

③ 那个时候天气很干燥，敌人不可能进攻太长时间，之后就撤退了（withdrawal），所以战争就不会持续太长时间（long lasting）。
